Error 500

Easy installer has done the trick and unpacked the files onto my site, however when moving to step 3 or setup.php I am returned an internal server error.

Thinking the automatic installer hadn't work I manually downloaded and uploaded the files but with the same result.

I have only seen this error when using PHp5 on a PHP4 server and a malformed HTACCESS file. I have a PHP5 server (my CMS is PHP5) and the HTACCESS file has nothing that can cause an error.

Looking at the script I see calls for config.php files that currently do not exist, other than that no error log is created so I'm stumped :cry:

Could you please specify what http server application you are using, on what platform and what's the version?
I know there were some issues (although we were hoping we eliminated them in epesi) concerning older xampp versions and validity of .htaccess files (i.e. even correct access file could be considered invalid by the server and that had result in error 500).

I'm on a full LAMP server, my spec is as follows:

PHP version: 5.2.2 (Get phpinfo)
Log errors: On
Magic quotes: On
Memory limit: 32M
Register globals: Off
Upload max. filesize: 32M

It's not urgent, we are just experimenting at the moment and the demo of your app is extremely impressive.

I was looking for similar issue (error 500) and I noticed there are some problems with .htaccess on LAMP as well. Could you please remove .htaccess file in main directory of your current epesi installation so we can make sure that's not the case? Any feedback would be much appreciated.

Renaming HTACCESS has done the trick for installation, this was performed with no issue.

However when navigating to index.php I am again returned a 500 error - again no error log is created.

I have checked my master error log and problem is:

error: file is writeable by others: (/home/ukatb/public_html/cms/epis/index.php)
error: file is writeable by others: (/home/ukatb/public_html/cms/epis/process.php)

I set permissions of php files to 644 and now we're getting somewhere! I have managed to setup the site now.

By changing folder permissions to 755 this also has removed some problems. I can now view the program properly and just ironing out final errors.

By default they are set to 666 and 777 - Is this something you could change in the installer or is it server configuration?

That's exactly one of the things that easy install is supposed to take care of.
EDIT: Perhaps I should elaborate on this topic a bit more. The reason we set permissions of files and directories to 666 and 777 respectively (in easy install script) is to allow users other than http server to modify those files, simply to enable further patching or extending application via ftp. Apparently your server configuration was set to prevent launching scripts if such permissions are set.

dude, just remove or rename the .htaccess file.
