Problem after upgrading

Since upgrading from 1.4.4 to the current version i can no longer create contacts, i can create companies but not contacts.

When i click the new/add on the contact page the lodin screen pops up for a second then nothing, noticed the URL changes in the address bar by add a #1 to the top and if i click again goes to #2 the #3 etc

checked my error log and there are no errors, also clearned my cache etc etc etc and still no joy.

Just to take it from equation, please navigate to /data/cache/ and delete file common.php.

If that doesn't help, can you check what's the response for the request generated when clicking "New"?

The simplest way to check that is in Chrome. Go to epesi, navigate to Contacts, press F12, switch to Network tab on the panel that popped up and then click "New". An item will be displayed in the panel at the bottom, labeled "process.php", clicking on it will display the response.

It's also possible to do in Firefox, but Firebug addon is required. Opening the Firebug will show the equivalent of Network tab.

Deleted the common.php file and that removed all the button in the control bar at the top

click the add new over the list still pops up the loading screen and does nothing but the process.php shows in chrome as

The response doesn't look good. It's missing the major component Epesi.text(<lots of HTML here>);

Are you sure this is the process.php that was the result of the "New" click?

Could you PM me with login details for your epesi installation? It'll be much easier for me to figure out what's going on in there.

Yeah, this is the stuff. Looks alright.

It should be safe to assume you're getting Javascript errors. Can you post here if and what JS errors you're getting? In Chrome it's in the very bottom-right corner, next to the cog. If there's an error, it looks like this:

Clicking on it will display any js errors encountered.

To have a clear result, it's best to startup Chrome with empty page, enable console (F12), then go to your epesi and perform the actions needed to get the error.

If there's an error, please post the message you're getting.

can you navigate anywhere from the Contacts browse panel? Change order of fields, click a letter from the "ABC" panel, set filters?
Can you navigate to other part of the system from there using the menu?

For best result I'd recommend checking every one of these things after a full refresh of epesi (F5).
I think I know where else (than JS error) we can expect problem like that to happen, but I'll need those answers.

It all points to session dying, but it's really odd there's no error message in the log regarding that.
Can you check mysql error log? I figure there should be something regarding this issue.

The most likely culprit is max_allowed_packet in mysql config. To check that variable simply run query:

SHOW VARIABLES LIKE 'max_allowed_packet';

It should be at least 1MB (i.e. 1048576 bytes). If it's lower, you can try to change it using

SET max_allowed_packet=1048576;

or edit your mysql config and restart mysql.

Also, please check your memory limit in php.ini, make sure it's at least 64M, just to be on the safe side.

I also checked the reply you got, the Epesi.text() and it also supports the "session dying" scenario. Last time I just skimmed it, but it's obvious the reply is to display dashboard (session dead = restart epesi).

I should also ask: Have you made any custom modifications in the code? Custom module, processing method, changed/added fields in Contacts?

As for the main problem: it's really hard to say anything more without examining the system myself. As I understand that is not an option, can you perhaps post (attach) your php.ini, mysql.ini and phpinfo() result? Perhaps I will be able to recreate the problem on my machine.
