Emails (Sending Mainly) slow

Hello,

When any of the users try and send an email using roundcube / epesi then emails are taking 'forever' to send with the timeout sometimes kicking in before the email is sent.

other imap clients work well and a default installation of roundcube sending emails works well on the server.

It is also quite slow to download headers when the mail client is first opened or the folders are changed.

Any ideas?

Hello,

The one time we had a report of a slow Roundcube performance in EPESI and we investigated it, there was some problem with IP resolution and DNS configs. Basically - it was taking ages and couple of DNS till Roundcube was getting the right address to contact the mail server. It all boiled down to server configuration. I wasn't assigned to that specific case, so I can't provide any details at the moment, but if you want I can ask what was the resolution in that case.

However, in all likelihood, it will require some debugging to resolve that issue. Did you try to use various mail servers? Do all mail servers respond in the same manner?
Another possible explanation is the e-mail archiving mechanism - please try to send e-mail with "Archive" disabled (an icon to switch archiving is available when composing the message). If it does help it - please try to check if any of the e-mails is archived in EPESI. If disabling archiving doesn't help at all, then it all boils down to Roundcube/server configuration.

Also, make sure to test attachments separately, since it creates completely different scenario.

I am managing two installations of EPSI, one that has Exchange 2007 and works brilliantly.

The second installation (the one I am having problems with) has two servers, Exchange 2003 and Exchange 2010. The sending problem has been experienced on both servers.

Email through EPSI/Roundcube is overall very slow on Exchange 2003 but sending was ok.
Email through EPSI/Roundcube on Exchange 2010 was much faster at getting the IMAP headers etc, but worked well otherwise.

All email accounts are defined using the server IP Addresses not hostnames and so DNS will not be an issue

I have done a quick test on My PC with and without archiving and there doesnt seem to be much difference.

I am just testing to see if it is down to SMTP Authentication.

I will let you know progress.

Initial hints suggest it might be the SMTP authentication which is now turned off.

I will keep an eye on it and report back if it isnt solved.
