Most likely this error is a result of a failed setup step and the real problem is why this step failed. Recently we had some reports indicating similar problem, all of which revolved around strict error reporting set in php:
viewtopic.php?f=3&t=347&p=1325&hilit=strict#p1326
Please try the solution suggested in this post. Also, can you tell us what http server/package you are using and what php version you're running?
