How to create a reporting module?

Hello,

Another requirement before we can begin using epesi in production is a report that will display select information from the Companies but not everything and in a format that can be printed and emailed. I've seen some topics about the record browser and charts and it sounds like we need a simple custom module. I was wondering where I should start and how complicated it will be. I'm also interested in using the paid support if needed. Could you estimate a cost and time for a simple module like this? For example, it would display a spreadsheet report that can be printed and emailed, possibly imported into a spreadsheet like excel easily. It would display some of the company fields like Name, address, as well as at least 3 of our custom fields.

I'll keep looking through the forum but any help getting pointed in the right direction would be very useful.

Can you be more specific? Can you give us an example? What filters would you like to use? Yes, of course it can be done. The results can be shown in HTML table view in the browser, exported to Excel, printed on PDF and shown on different type of graphs and charts.

Do you need to calculate some data and/or summarize it on your report?

The Sales Opportunities has already a report, but it's a very simple one. I need a custom report for my Orders processing module. The report must handle three sections, a header where are informations about the date, the agent and the company who send the order, then details about the products on order: id, name, measure unity, quantity, sale price and the value of the products; then a footer with summary totals. It's something like an invoice. Then I need a report with all orders to process in a day with total quantities of products. It's a little bit complicated, but I done before more complicated reports with data grouping and relationed tables in Foxpro using SQL and Report designer included. I wonder if there is a way to rapid design of reports in epesi?

Hello,

The one tool we created to make creating reports easier is Utils/RecordBrowser/Reports. It's a lib that can be used by developers to create reports in format presented by the SalesOpp reports - a table with column and row totals, graphs, date ranges, etc.
The way you put it, however, I'm afraid you won't find much use for this module. In this case, you will most likely need to resort directly to GenericBrowser, RecordBrowser and probably some other modules. Also please note that while it may be very tempting to use SQL queries to extract the data, you will most likely end up skipping all the permissions limitation set in administration. Using RecordBrowser to retrieve the records is the easiest way to comply with permissions, it does all the work automatically every time you call get_records() method. If performance becomes an issue, it's sometimes better to pull out all records in one call and then use them appropriately than to call get_records() in every iteration of the loop.

Hi again,

We need a view or module that displays the Companies. The Companies view with advanced search works for most of the reports we need. However, we need a simpler view that has a .csv export. Here are the requirements:

[*:kikewbvj]Displays only the following fields in this order: clientid (a custom field), Company Name, Daily Calls (a custom field), Weekly Calls ( a custom field)[/*:m:kikewbvj]

[*:kikewbvj]ability to search and sort by any of the fields like in the Companies view[/*:m:kikewbvj]
[*:kikewbvj]remove the 3 columns to the left. We do not need or want the view/edit/delete buttons, favorite, or watch columns[/*:m:kikewbvj]
[*:kikewbvj]ability to click on Company Name like in the Companies view[/*:m:kikewbvj]
[*:kikewbvj]ability to export the view as .csv file[/*:m:kikewbvj][/list:u:kikewbvj]

We are looking for a rough quote for the cost of having you create this. I'd also like to understand how it works in case we need to make changes to it. Please let us know if any of the requirements are difficult/costly and any recommendations.
