using the print feature hangs up my printers??

Hi Everyone,

this is a odd particular issue.

I tried printing a list of companies on 2 different printers and they both Hanged up... very odd..

when I click print, it opens a PDF file with the very nice layout of the report. When I hit print, nothing prints, it goes directly to the spooler and nothing happens.

can you please check this out?

Hi,

EPESI uses TCPDF library to generate PDF reports: http://www.tcpdf.org/
When you click on print icon the report is generated in PDF format. You can view it inline (like in Chrome) or using PDF viewer. This is already outside of EPESI - the PDF file was created. Try to save it and print with a different utility and see what happens. It looks like a printer spooler or printer driver problem to me.

Hi,

Well there is something odd here, I think its how the CRM is generating the PDF that isn't working (this is my guess, not saying it is)

I have tried it on 3 different printers, 3 different spoolers and 2 different computers. Its not the hardware that is breaking, it has something to do inside the Postscript itself.

I also took a screenshot of the PDF header showing something that isn't generating properly.

to reproduce:
1. go to companies
2. display only the Ds of the companies
3. print to pdf
4. print pdf to printer

after you look at the screenshot, can you still say its TCPDF's fault? I think its a bug in the CRM code generating the PDF using TCPDF.

Also another thing you can try is generate a EPESI report, send me the attachment, then I can try it here with my hardware so I can let you know if its just me, but you should test it first on your hardware to see if it works.

Hi,

In fact this strange header is proper. CONCAT is SQL function which just concatenate strings so here is sql query "WHERE company_name LIKE D% or company_name LIKE d%". Where in SQL percent sign states as anything. It's like asterisk in shell. So this query means "where company starts with d or D".
There is a method that should convert this query to something like natural language, but in fact it doesn't handle well this type of query as you can see.

I agree, that something is wrong here. Probably PDF is corrupted, but on screen it looks well. I don't have any experience and knowledge about PDF structure, but on this site i see that generated in EPESI PDF has some issues, but I have no idea are they minor issues or huge bugs... Try some advices from adobe printing troubleshoot. Maybe try use different application for PDFs.

Thanks, that helped. We narrowed it down and it looks like it is something to do with Macs OS X.
we have tried windows 7 Adobe reader print to Printer A and it printed.
We have tried Mac OSX Mountain Lion with Adobe Reader print to Printer A and choked the printer.

I know you are guys are super busy with other features to put in the CRM (thanks!!) but when would you expect to fix the generated pdf format or switch to a different PDF library so we can print from multiple platform OS's and never bug you guys with printing again? 😛

Just tested printing from EPESI on OS X - 10.8.3 and it works perfectly fine. The printer I am using is a monochrome laser Samsung SCX-4720FN for which I am using driver 1.5 for SCX 4x20 Series.

You can try several things to find the cause of your problems. First - create the PDF file from EPESI on both Windows and OS X. Save both files - lets call them Win_Test.pdf and OS_X_Test.pdf
Try to print both of them on both platforms - Windows and OS X.
Try to use Preview on OS X instead of Adobe Reader. There are plenty of alternatives which are smaller, faster and have more functions. Besides - why don't you use Chrome's PDF features? Or OS X native PDF handling?
If you are using EPESI ver. 1.4 or higher you can use Google Docs integration and open PDF directly within a browser. You need just one valid Google account - free is fine - per company to enable this feature:

This way you don't need to relay on Adobe Reader.

Please post results of your tests here.

As for the library - we already tried several of them and TCPDF seems to be the best so far. It is under active development and I am sorry but we have no plans to replace it anytime soon.

I used OS X - 10.8.2 (no updates yet to go to 10.8.3) Printer HP Laserjet 3800dn for my testing (driver 19.5)
Saved both files as you said on windows and on my Mac called recordset_company.pdf (exactly the same .pdf for both Mac and windows)
Try to print on Windows printed fine
try to print on Mac using Preview, Printer Displays error: 49, 4C02 Service Error
I don't want to move to Chrome since I was a long time IE User and recently moved to Firefox since it took me that long to find out that IE is not really standard with the web designs.
I have the latest version of EPESI (1.4.2) but we do not have any plans of using the google intergration at this current time.

We have also test these printers with the similar issues:
HP Color Laserjet CM1312nfi MFP (driver 19.5)
Lexmark E360dn (driver 11.2)
HP Laserjet Pro 400 color (driver 1.0)

I installed the latest google chrome, printed the exact report, same result, didn't work

I mean 4 printers, 2 different makes, it works for you guys but not us with our Macs, thats just crazy.

I also installed a fresh copy of the CRM (incase it was data related (you never know)) and still got the issue.

I see that's pretty odd issue...

It may be document related problem, but also firmware, communication...

Try to print as an image as suggested. Maybe software update (of OS X) will solve the problem permanently?
