Roundcube Internal Server error 500

Hi Everyone,

oh boy this is a odd one.

when someone uses the Roundcube, typing a new email and start typing a contact.

instead of auto filling it displays Internal Server Error

now, apparently I do hope this isn't related to this issue, but someone was able to manage to put duplicated emails in the system.

If this is related, how will it be possible to allow duplicates because apparently how our System works, company emails should* be the same as the primary contact for the person who owns the company because I never heard of a company having its own email account.

and... they currently worship the person who was able to put duplicates in the CRM :P

please give us an idea how to conquer this problem so people can stay happy :)

Check system logs... 500 means that something went wrong outside PHP code. Memory limits, file permissions, any mods for http server... There is too many possibilities. Our EPESI installations work properly.

any idea which log I need to check?
I looked in http_err.log file but did not find any issues there.

Hi Adam,

I did some more testing and this is what I have found:

NetworkError: 500 Internal Server Error - http://ssi.samcocrm.com/modules/CRM/Rou ... tocomplete"

I did some research and this is what I found:

which means that coding can also cause this problem.

I tested our CRM copy on multiple servers with different PHP versions, still having an issue
I created a fresh copy of EPESI and it worked on the server that we are having this issue.
I got the person who made duplicates do it on the fresh one as well and it worked no problem.
he also got creative and made a invalid email and its still working..

FYI, we are on EPESI CRM 1.5.0 on both Live and for my quick testing.

I don't think this is a server issue. what can we do?

First of all - your server logs should tell something more than just 500 and file. Maybe you should turn on logging with more detailed level.

As I said it may be related to several things. You've already know that it's not related to server settings, because second instance works properly on the same server. But it may be related to installation specific properties - like file permissions, database content, EPESI settings, data folder content, .htaccess files.

It would be easiest if you could get more detailed error log.

Hi Adam,

Permissions seems to be in order and my .htaccess also seems fine.
I modified my .htaccess to break purposely and I found that the broken .htaccess appeared in my httpd_error.log file.

however I am still trying to reproduce the error generated from Roundcube and it is not writing to any log that I can find.

here is a screenshot of what the error look like by the way since its not a normal 500 internal error you would see on screen.

I'm really out of ideas now, and I don't know what I need to fix 🙁

FYI, I think its something to do with the data content or EPESI settings, but there is so many content that I don't know where to begin.

jjjj12212 - you need to check your PHP log file. The screenshot just confirms that you have an error, but it is useless for troubleshooting.

HA! Ok, I went though and found the issue.

Apparently, if I change the field name "short name" to "Company No" this is when the error occurs.

can you please check and confirm this is just me or this is a bug?

CONFIRM!!!! This fixed the issue!!!

I changed "Company No" to "Short Name" and this did in fact fixed the problem.

However, please don't ignore this, I don't want to "translate" that field and want to be able to use that field to Company No rather than Short Name.

You can not just rename the field - some field names are hard coded and doing so will crash EPESI - what you experienced just recently.

First of all - if you do something, like modification to the code or renaming a field - and the application stops working - you need to reverse these changes!

If you don't want to use translation tool - which was created exactly for that purpose - then why don't you simply create a new field called "Company No"?

Of course, but we have done many things in the half year until we notice this issue and that being said it took a while to pinpoint the issue and I just needed some advice on how to conquer the problem as to where to look. (since I never encountered a 500 error before on my systems)

Now for my next statement, I do you no harm but please think I am a normal unpredictable user who knows nothing about coding (some angry salesman 😛)

Yes I can, go to Menu->Admin->RB->Recordset Company and click edit. If I am not suppose to rename a field, then why don't you lock it so I don't do damage? (I know the asset module have done this)

Theres no documentation stating "these fields are hard coded, please don't change them" and no one told me. Also I'm just some angry salesman so don't expect me to read code.

Now I'm sure you guys do way more programming than I do and just got in the industry, but isn't the number 1 rule to any application:

simply saying if you allow your users to rename the fields, then we will rename the fields (my bad, I'm one of them)
I mean even I have to lock my users out from some fields because I know that they will make changes that will break the system.

the main point why I rename the field, because I don't want to have an empty column in my database called short name if my users don't want to use it, simply wasting space.

You're right that we should set this field as non-extra to prevent editing it, or fix roundcube addon.
