Migrate Email history into Epesi

Hello,

We have been using Outlook as our mail client for hosted exchange up till now.

Now that we would start using Epesi, we would like to import our email history of the customers into Epesi. Can you please suggest the best way to do this ?

I tried converting it into Excel, but faced a lot of issues -
- The attachments are not coming
- There are multiple email addresses, and I am not sure how to link them
- Sometimes there are just names being referred in the To, CC field, and not the complete email address. Outlook probably links to the actual address from Contacts book when sending email.

EPESI does not have mass e-mail import utility at this time. You would have to write your own.

It is relatively easy to manually import e-mails, but it has to be done one at the time using e-mail archive button in Roundcube client within EPESI. Of course this will be time consuming, requiring inspection of every e-mail message. In some way this was our goal - every message worth saving is individually inspected and then archived or not. We don't want to automatically archive SPAM and junk e-mails.

To start archiving e-mails in EPESI from you hosted Exchange all you need to do is to configure Exchange as IMAP server and then in EPESI configure Roundcube client for every user.

Will this ensure that all the existing emails in the mailboxes also come into Epesi, and linked to contacts automatically ?

No - e-mails will not be moved into EPESI and linked automatically. You will need to archive them first - one by one - to get this result.

Thanks a lot for your message, and thanks a lot for sharing the link. It was very helpful to understand the internals of how Epesi and Roundcube work together.

We have 6 mailboxes to migrate, and over 10,000 emails in each of them. It would be a herculean task for me to archive each one of these emails independently.

As per the link that you shared above, this is what happens in the background -
- e-mail message is extracted from the mailbox and stored in epesi as on object (text message is stored in the database with links to atachments stored as files)
- e-mail message is moved to Epesi Archive folder (in case you want to do something with it in any IMAP e-mail client)
- e-mail addresses: From, To, CC - are scanned against CRM Contacts in CRM Companies in epesi and links to all matching e-mails/contacts are created for this archives e-mail

I do understand that the functionality for mass archiving, or mass-import of existing emails is still under development.
Are you aware of any 3rd party tools that we may use for the purpose ?
I am guessing Roundcube is more of a universal tool.
