How to inject javascript into Contacts page from module?

I am thinking ahead and forsee the need to add some controls to the Contacts form for interacting with Xero. I imagine doing this by javascript some how injected into the Contacts page (unless there is a better way). I imagine adding some buttons using the jQuery $(document).ready(...) event. How would I set this up from the module install function?

Please describe what you need in terms of user interface, not what do you think will do the job. In my opinion you're asking the wrong question.
Screenshot, arrows and description or any other graphic mockups are the best in such cases.
