'Start typing to search...' Missing

I've just installed EPESI 1.8.2.2 on OpenSuse 42.3 with PHP 7. everything works perfectly except for the ability to search for Customers when creating Meetings, Tasks and Phonecalls. The 'Start typing to search...' is missing from the input field and in Meetings and Tasks the Customer field is populated with the a list of the customer names.
Thus to create a meeting, task or phonecall I have to start from the Companies screen and click the relevant icon against the Customer (and multiple customers cannot be selected)
Is this working as designed or do i need to modify my installation as the 'Start typing to search...' shows in the online demo.
Any help would be appreciated.

That is strange, you should either have a list or autocomplete field for customers. Are you getting any error when searching for customers? Could you give us a screenshot of what you see? You may need to increase your sort bufer size in mysql https://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.7/en/using-system-variables.html

Thanks for the prompt response. My sort_buffer_size is 2097152 , which should be adequate. At present we are testing the EPESI environment before going into production and only have 19 companies at present
We get no Errors when searching for customers using the Search in the top left of the main window
The relevant portion of our Meeting entry screenshot is shown in the ourmeeting.jpg attachment, and your demo site in the epesimeeting.lpg for comparison.

Possibly related, when we do a search on a contact name, from the search screen, the result is prefixed with the word Contacts: whereas in the demo there is no such prefix.

Ok, so you can add/remove customers to the meeting using the green arrows. Hmm, I don't think I understand the problem. By default the autocomplete field e.i. "Start typing to search..." will appear when you have over 50 companies.

Thanks, that must be the issue and it's working as designed. I'll test but am sure you are correct, I appreciate the assistance and this is really great software!
