Session expired, restarting epesi [Solved]

fresh installation
after db setup this error keeps displaying
"Session expired, restarting epesi"

Installed either as http or https and the url is ~~[url=http://localhost/epesi]~~http://localhost/epesi[/url] or ~~[url=https://localhost/epesi]~~https://localhost/epesi[/url]

defined EPESI_DIR=/ or /epesi or /srv/.../epesi

but the error still remains

1. Please enable DISPLAY_ERRORS and REPORT_ALL_ERRORS in data/config.php
2. Check again - maybe you'll get other error. Check also http server logs.
3. I assume that it only happens after logging in? Please check table session if there are any records.
4. Please create such simple PHP script to check if session timeout is not set to 0. Then open this in the browser. (e.g put this into a.php file in EPESI dir)

You should get int greater than zero. I've got 1440.

I solved such problem today.

Open data/config.php file and check is there a EPESI_DIR define.
If not, then add one (I suppose your epesi address is http://localhost/epesi)



define("EPESI_DIR","/epesi/");

EPESI_DIR should reflect what is right after domain name. If EPESI runs as a main domain application like http://example.com, then put just slash (/)



define("EPESI_DIR","/");

Some explanation.
This constant is responsible for path attribute of cookie. So if you've got wrong EPESI_DIR, then cookie will be set for the wrong path, and your browser won't pass any cookie to the server, server(script responsible for handling AJAX) will assume that you don't have a session opened, so it have to open index.php file again to set up session.

I hope this will resolve your problems.

Really you've put those spaces around epesi? It should be "/epesi/" without spaces. Install process creates config.php, then you have to edit it(when you'll get "Session expired ... "), refresh page and continue installation.

Try to comment out FILE_SESSION_DIR and FILE_SESSION_TOKEN. Maybe your files are not persistent between requests.

Is your installation online? May I have a look at this "Session expired" error loop?

I've found an issue of your 'Session expired'.
Our session database column is too short, or your session id is too long.
Two solutions:
1. Edit your settings in php.ini to set shorter session_id
2. Trim session_id to 32 characters in session handler.

ad.1.

you can get this setting with simple php script (put this script in the EPESI dir):

Then try to set session.hash_function in your own php.ini in EPESI dir.

session.hash_function = 0;

Then open again the script above and check is it 32 char. long.

PS. You don't have to perform easyinstall each time. Just once you've downloaded, then try to change your php settings, and refresh browser each time.

It did not help, but turned on in php.ini session.auto_start 1, was 0

I've fixed this in our dev branch. Go to the github and get a new "include/session.php" file.
Replace yours with this and [b]change "const MAX_SESSION_ID_LENGTH = 128;" to "const MAX_SESSION_ID_LENGTH = 32;"

Or wait for the next release.

I am having this exact issue.

os x 10.9 with os x server 3.0.2. Other installs such as wordpress or drupal work fine.

Did you fix this error? What is the size of the "session_name" field in "history" table in your database?
The error message gives you an answer. Try to increase the size (length) of this field to 255.

It helped, it works OK, I changed the length of the "session_name" field in "history" table on 255
